Yes, We've Been Around - Places I've Been

SeeWord is a sole owned proprietorship that has been in existence since 1986, first as SeeWord Graphics In Santa Cruz, California, and then in 1990, SeeWord Technology was formed as an Apple and Motorola Authorized Value Added Reseller offering on-site sales and service for small business and desktop publishing environments. Currently, we are located in the Bloomington/Normal area, serving the Macintosh community of McLean County, Illinois, and beyond.

I'm a firm believer in supporting our families and our community, the majority of the profits from this site are dedicated towards world wide projects. We can't change the world all at once, but we sure can have an affect doing it one person at a time. Every several years we visit a remote site in a third world country to provide some type of assistance. We choose not to just provide people with fish, but yet to teach them how to fish. With a dedicated team of about twenty, we can accomplish more in two weeks than most people can in three months.

I've always had that travel bug. Starting when I was a child and my parents took us kids on a vacation to Canada, Niagra Falls and the northeast US. As a teenager, studying Greek Mythology and the Roman Empire, I could almost picture myself walking up the steps of the Colleseum in Rome, the Parthenon in Greece or even Red Square. But I was just a farm kid growing up in Central Illinois. Those things were beyond my means. Uncle Sam's draft had a different idea and I found myself with orders to go to Viet Nam. Somehow, those orders were changed at the last minute and I found myself flying across a different ocean.

My job in the military required that I travel extensively throughout Europe. It wasn't long before I realized that the world is much smaller then I had ever comprehended and those teenage travel dreams became reality in short order. Traveling from one country to the other seemed no different than traveling from state to state the U.S.

God blesses us all with unique talents. "Vacations" soon became opportunties to utilize talents in a worldly way. In the past, we've traveled to such far off places as Papua New Guinea, Peru, Brazil, Nairobi, or Israel. We traveled with a crew to the "forgotten island at the end of the world." Madagascar is situated off the south eastern part of Africa. Our work was with the abandoned street kids in the city of Antananarivo and to assist in the construction of a church/community building in the village of Morarano. Several years ago, twenty two of us built a classroom building in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It was completed from the foundation up, in 11 days. Years ago, we rebuilt homes in Lima, Peru, and reclaimed flooded lands in Southern Brazil. Just a few of the projects, all while enjoying the opportunity to travel the world and do something constructive at the same time.

If we do not help, who will?

I firmly believe that God has blessed all of us with unique abilities and opportunities to become successful in our business. It is up to us in how we give that back.
